Take Sides 03:50
When you said, you were headed out with friends, how would I know That’s who you meant? Now I tried, my best to rewind Playing it back, trying to act like I didn’t mind. But I can’t, fucking act, like I didn’t mind. You asked me what the damage was When you stayed out all night Well, you lied, and said everything was fine! Said everything was fine! I can’t, go to sleep with you back-to-back Every night just to avoid impact. I won’t sympathize, every time you bat your eyes I am a rock who knows no compromise I am an island who knows no compromise You asked me what the damage was When you stayed out all night Well, you lied, and said everything was fine! Resign. Say that you were wrong and I was right, Take sides this time Fall on your sword and die Fall on your sword and die You asked me what the damage was When you stayed out all night Well, you lied, and said everything was fine! Resign. Say that you were wrong and I was right, Take sides this time Fall on your sword and die Fall on your sword and die

I got your message I don’t know what to say Blank looks from passengers While I ride the train Headphones and heartbreak Heading up the stairs Vacation keychain i’m Hoping you’re not there Please grab your things I don’t really wanna talk Sorry means nothing When I’m still in shock Pictures and postcards An inside joke or two Trying to erase this Remembering you Please just grab your things I don’t wanna talk Sorry means nothing When I’m still in shock

Don’t you understand I can’t take it back Every time I breathe I am reminded I made a mistake. I’ll never forget. You wanna cut me out I’m not ready yet Won’t you think of me Every now and then I don’t wanna fight Let’s begin again I just want to talk Why won't you pick it up I'm on the other end Now what What now Now what What now Now what I’m saying goodbye To the life we’ve made, Faded memories I can’t throw away Put them in boxes now, I should wait for you. Don’t you want to try Our old Avenue Won’t you think of me Every now and then I don’t wanna fight Let’s begin again I just want to talk Why won't you pick it up I'm on the other end Now what What now Now what What now Now what What now Now what What now Now what What now Now what What now Now what What now Now what

about

Over the past several months, I've been releasing songs in small batches. April is here and I have three more tracks for your consideration. For this batch, my writing partner, Bill Chesney, and I decided to write a story arc of a break up. The lyrics aren't necessarily pretty but hopefully the melodies balance that out. Enjoy and if you feel so inclined, share it with a friend.

about

Steve Leaf Grand Rapids, Michigan

There is a quiet confidence to the music of Steve Leaf. He has been writing songs for fifteen years now. Some songs about love, some songs about love lost, and others about everything else to cover all the bases. Steve hails from Michigan and cut his teeth in the singer/songwriter scene of Chicago which is to say he usually tries to sneak a Wilco cover into his set. ... more
